About
Katherine Bonev
From a young age, I felt a strong connection to older generations—my grandparents and great-grandparents were my favorite people in the world. I loved playing, and baking, and talking with them, hearing the stories of their lives, which instilled in me a deep respect and admiration for them. At sixteen, I began working as a nursing assistant at a local nursing home, and later as a private care CNA. It was my first step into a career dedicated to improving the lives of others.

After some years in nursing, I explored other paths, including high-end optical sales and ballroom dance instruction. These roles gave me invaluable experience working with older individuals, developing both short- and long-term relationships, and creating meaningful experiences tailored to their needs. Whether it was helping a client find satisfaction with prescription eyewear they initially resisted or guiding a dance student toward achieving a goal they thought impossible, I learned the importance of balancing expectations with reality while celebrating progress. I took immense pride in seeing my clients and students truly happy with their outcomes.

These experiences ultimately led me back to the nursing field, where I could explore health and wellness more deeply. I worked as a nursing assistant while completing nursing school, and after graduating, I gained extensive experience in acute care, including med-surg, COVID units, and Level 1 ICU. Though challenging and rewarding, I realized acute care wasn't my long-term goal. I transitioned into private and home care, which allowed me to spend more time with patients and see the healthcare journey from a different perspective. I also oversaw caregiver education, provided CNA training, and worked in Medicare-supported home health care. These roles gave me insight into the gaps in the healthcare system and the struggles faced by both patients and providers.

As a care manager, I can work closely with individuals to navigate their health journeys, helping to prevent avoidable complications and prepare for potential challenges. This kind of personalized support not only makes patients feel safer and more heard but also improves outcomes, reduces hospitalizations, and alleviates caregiver strain. For family caregivers, it allows their roles to shift back to being family members rather than untrained caretakers, fostering stronger relationships and reducing stress.

At NorthStar Nursing, my focus is on empowering patients to achieve the highest quality of life possible, with care that respects their individuality and fosters trust, confidence, and peace of mind. I am honored to have the opportunity to use my nursing experience in such a meaningful and fulfilling way.
